Get Comfortable with Uncomfortable

We all have those uncomfortable places that take us out of the ordinary. They really stretch us and take us beyond the place that we are used to.  The place that we are transformed.

However, in order to be transformed and to grow, we need to allow ourselves the ability to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. That is what the trainer yesterday said to us three while we were at a 10 incline on the treadmill during the HIIT class.  This was the “break” before the next go around. High Intensity Interval Training.  And I believe in those moments where we are truly uncomfortable –in those seasons of change and transition that God is taking us through His own type of “HIIT” class! LOL even though it is not really funny!! I laugh because of all the things we go through, what can we do.  We have our own fight to build us better. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy to obtain.  It takes work.  It takes a disciplined life.

Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
1 Corinthians 9:26-27

It is just going to be U N C O M F O R T A B L E!

There are conversations that we have to have when we don’t want to.

There is a time we have to wake when we don’t want to.

There are places that we have to go to when we don’t want to –but that is all geared towards our growth.  What can I say but that we really have to embrace the change, especially when it is completely out of our hands and in His.

I am in HIIT class when I hear that alarm bell going off in the morning and I have to push towards the prayer call then go to work.

I am in HIIT class when I have to encounter the various personalities throughout my work day or church day.

I am in HIIT class when I find myself once again in that season where He is doing a work inside me. I think then I will say I have to be more prepared.

Just like I asked the trainer during the class “30 second rest” when he said we would have great change coming our way for the better when we condition our bodies like this.  “What about our food?!?”

“AH –simple, let me provide you with a general concept if you are looking to build your body:

At breakfast, eat like a king.

At lunch, eat like a queen.

At dinner, eat like a peasant.”

And how true we can use that concept for other things.  So in the morning before I start my day, I am going to want to make sure I have a healthy devotional and meditation time –prayer, reading, journaling and preparing my mind to take on the day both professionally and personally.

Attention Pays

In the afternoon, I will continue to reflect through inspirational material that helps me keep focus and aligned with my daily goals.  And at night I will wind down with a good book preparing myself for bed.  I love to read before I go to bed so that my mind isn’t saturated with other images from films or media.  This helps me sleep better.

We have to keep positive! All things POSITIVE! Even when it is uncomfortable.  It is not based on emotions but on our entire being and purpose.  We are called to lead and live a life of excellence and that is POSSIBLE.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Listen folks –we just got to get better at this thing called life. Every day is an opportunity to start again. I know there are rough days –but those rough days are sharpening us for the best days! Stay focused, stay the course and try all that you can even when it becomes more than uncomfortable. My most read verse these days is from Isaiah –which helps me to get by because I know I am not doing it alone!

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.”
Isaiah 43:2

No matter the situation, we will get through it and come out stronger than ever before. You can get comfortable with knowing that in your uncomfortable places –you will always be with the Comforter!

LOOK UP

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip— He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

Amen, what an amazing promise that God will watch over us. All we need to do is look up. Look up to Him.

Many times in life, we tend to look back at our past. We look to our side circumstances or situation. Or some of us even look down upon our situation in fear, doubt, guilt or shame!

But the one place that God always wants us to look is UP! That is where He is. That is where purpose is. That is where the promise is, when we keep our eyes fixated on Him. When we have our ears attentive to His Word and not on the waves of life.

It is so easy to look behind us. It can be a crutch for us to look BACK!!! We think of the memories and often result to the things that are familiar. When God is pushing us to move forward, we hold ourselves back as hostages when we don’t allow ourselves to move ahead to what is next!

Another struggle that we have is to look at our situation! We magnify our problems when the One we need to magnify is GOD! The promise keeper! The Way Maker!!!! The light in any darkness we may face… He will carry is through (Isaiah 43)! That is a promise bigger than any problem that tries to present itself!

Some of us have an issue with looking down upon ourselves. We easily get distracted, discouraged, distressed, disengaged, disheartened and disappointed! Why? Because we allow the enemy to plant these seeds (negative thoughts) into our head when we don’t see things working out in our favor as quickly as we want it to!!

But here is what I want to encourage you with today!

Don’t keep looking back! It is over! Done! Finished! Move on from the past and learn to embrace a bright future of endless possibilities!

Discard every negative lying thought!!!!

Understand WHO and how powerful you are in Christ!!!

You don’t need to compare your life with others, God has written yours amazingly! He is not working on it… He is working on YOU! All that He has for you is done and selected… in time you will see and understand all that. God is not writing your story—He has WRITTEN your story, Psalm 139 tells us so!

And lastly DON’T LOOK DOWN! LOOK UP!

You were made for more! You are a king or a queen! You are a chosen generation! A royal priesthood!!! You are more than a conqueror! You are the head and not the tail! You stand victorious!

STAY POSITIVE! Stay prayerful! Keep your eyes on the One that will cover you all of your days!!! There’s so much more for you to do— now let’s just get to it!

Nothing Like Nature

This got me thinking so much! How much we need to pay attention to the things that matter the most!

Who are the people that matter the most?

My family! My lifelong friends! My church family.

What are my priorities?

Making sure I work to make a better living for me and my family. I give it all to serve, work and do what I got to do that will yield results for our best life! It’s my calling– in service. It is a pleasure to have work you love, which leads to my passions.

What are my passions?

Ahhh thats easy … see blog on Home Sweet Home! That about sums it up! But nature!!! I love, love, nature. The leaves, trees, breeze and sound. There’s nothing like nature. Autumn in New York has definitely got to be the best season! I guess I love the four seasons. 😂♥️

There is just something so beautiful about seeing these trees in all sorts of colors. I fall in love every single time. I loved the scenic drive up and back for our fall apple picking weekend.

Isn’t this lovely? Peaceful? So serene? YES!

I have to do this more often. Appreciating the natural things of life. To think I was going to stay home a bit more. I am glad I was able to spend a short time away.

I challenge you as well, just like the opening authors statement… what will you pay attention to? What has your focus? Allow the natural (non technical) things of life to bring you back to a place of gratitude and appreciation. Organic living all the way.

We can absorb and become our surroundings. Workaholic days must cease. Wholesome days with family we must continue to cultivate. Great to be in those environments where you can breathe in nature rather than busyness!

Let us remember why all these things were created. Let us pay attention to the things that matter the most! Those natural things are usually right next to us. 🙏🏽

Refocus!

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it.

AHHH HOME SWEET HOME

Isn’t it so so wonderful to kick your feet up after a long week on a Friday!! I just love that Friday feeling. And I am sure that you all do too!

What to do????

1) REST

2) READ

3) WRITE

4) SLEEP

Those are great things to do for me and I don’t expect everyone else to love those things, I am just done with packing my weekend up after so many work years! Weekends are to recoup.

We work so hard and time flies by so fast. There is nothing like being able to enjoy your own home, couch, bed, table, furniture. All these things you acquired over time to create a welcoming environment. That’s my home! My own peaceful Starbucks environment!

So today I pray that you REST! Enjoy your home, enjoy the people in it and enjoy what you built. There cant be nothing worse that not being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Live in this moment because you deserve not wasting it all away when life moves so fast.

On the right path…. excerpt from “Attention Pays” by Neen James:

“What would happen if we set some boundaries? As organizations, as leaders, and as individuals, we need to make it OK to have rest and recovery. And to recharge our batteries. We need to make it OK to pay attention to what really matters at work when we are there and to what really matters at home when we are there. How much more productive could we be if we focused and paid attention to who and what was important at the appropriate time?”

Take the time, the weekend, the evenings that you come home and make it SWEET! ♥️

You are worth it, even if you have to say NO to plans because you plan to rest. Be watchful and wise with your time because you cant get it back any other way.
