The Fog

imageI was driving to work today and the visibility was terrible. I could just see this BIG FOG. I know I am going in the right direction, for I have taken this route practically everyday for 15 years but based on the looks of it, doesn’t appear so safe. Speed is reduced. We proceed with caution.

I think this is how our walk is most times. Uncertainty is hanging on the balance. Questions are in the air. We seek immediate help and sometimes still come up empty. Life doesn’t seem fair. Things seem lost and forgotten.

But with God we need to keep going straight! Even when things don’t look so clear… knowing AT LEAST that we are headed straight even through the uncertainty, it’s always going to be what is best for us. When it is time to change route, go left or right, rest assured that He will guide us there too. Yet, those interim moments aren’t always as pleasant.

That is why many times we try to do things on our own strength. Yet, throughout the pages of the scripture we clearly see that our source is always going to be that trust in Him. Without knowing it all! Gaining that understanding by building a solid and intimate relationship with Him.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in ALL your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-4 New International Version

What do you do when you just don’t know? Keep moving forward. That is the best direction to go in. If we lean on Him, then we will know where to go, what to do and when. To lean is to depend on and give support so that we wont fall. If we lean on ourselves that isn’t really going to help us keep balance or to stay firm.

For any thing to grow…there are arguments [a process of reasoning] that will take you through the battle. As you learn to conquer those issues your character gets stronger and even relationships get tighter. This is where leaning takes place. This will determine the course of your life. If you are not able to solve that problem most walk away, make bad decisions or suffer. But if the problem is resolved then you become strengthened and MORE love is poured out based on that success. We find our place in God this way! This relationship becomes more intimate.

A lot of trial and error and a lot of commitment is necessary. God wants us to rely on Him throughout this whole process. As we travel in life through our relationships, homes, careers, ministries and more we will always have to LEAN ON HIM! It is treading upon areas where our faith will be put to the test. Our relationship with Him becomes primary. God over everything. He keeps instructing us.

The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young– let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance– for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:1-7 New International Version

There is a song by Hillsong United called “Oceans” that is amazing. The lyrics adequately describe our situation in many instances. Especially unclear places – much like that fog that we drive through on occasion.

The chorus to the song says the following:

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet would ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior.

Many times when you feel uncertain, unsure or undetermined… Go to your go-to Man… the Son of Man! With that prayer and reading of His word it brings upon that peace that we so desperately seek.

In prayer- I DECIDE. In prayer- I KNOW. In prayer- there is no confusion! I just give it all to Him. He is my Counselor, my Friend, my Rock and my Support… Through those foggy days, I can rest assured that everything is going to work out for the best. Then I breathe again… I read again… I speak again… It is in those quiet times, it is where I find myself again. I find that He is with me. The same way He is with you!

He will never change His view or perspective of us. He is mindful of us at all times! He won’t stop thinking about you. He is concerned about your situation. Many times the fog is our testimony. In the unknown we seek Him for that support and He gives it!

When things don’t make sense…

When things look confusing…

When you don’t know why…

When you need the help…

Ask Him to lead you right through that fog. During that fog, let’s log off everything else and log in with Him over these times in life. You have a special user name and a unique password that He gave just for you. What you will find is that as you are passing through, things will become clear. This too shall pass, and all will make sense.

Trust. Lean. Follow God.
