Devoted December

img_1261December is our month even more so devoted to Him.  A lot has happened in the last 11 months that we need to end this last month heavily in our devotional time.  I know that one of the things I heavily emphasize on is the use of our time on social media.  That said, I have decided to drastically decrease the time spent on the social scene so that I can focus on the spiritual means that really matter.

That is a situation for us as Christians to really consider.  Is our social connection hindering our spiritual connection?  We are turning to social media for answers, support, venting, words of encouragement, engagement, connectivity, friendships, followers or to share any random thing.  Why not exchange that social connection for the spiritual connection we can have with God that is much more worthwhile?

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.b I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
Jeremiah 29:13-14

Let us not close out this year the way it started in a social and selfie environment.  Let us close out this year totally devoted, dedicated and determined to seek Him with all our hearts even MORE! It is not that social media is bad–it is that it is consuming, controlling and so demanding of our time.  People know when we wake, eat, travel, grab coffee, hit the work place or even notify major personal updates through these means.

Sometimes we get so caught up in responding to everyone else that we fail to respond to Jesus!

We become inundated by every call every text, every alert, every notification, every message, every question, every email, every platform, every image …with different accounts and on every social network under the sun.  There is just so many. Yes it is so influential but it cannot be primal for us. Look what happens if we turn away from it an hour…a day….imagine if we can get to a month! All the notifications that are piling up.

GOD WANTS TO NOTIFY YOU!

Rather than be the one to wait until the heavy storms of life occur to notice how much He is trying to get our attention…. perhaps it is time to seek Him with ALL our heart. We are giving our hearts now to the social world–with likes galore –now LOVES, wows –ooohs and ahhhs! We share everything on a social network but are we sharing anything with Him???

Then drastic things occur to get us to see. How much engaging is causing us to disengage with Him so that internally we end up so barren that when we hit that breaking point we explode under the storms and pressures of life.

In the secret place, don’t take the mobile device. Disconnect so that you can connect with Him. God wants our full engagement. He wants to know how you feel, what you are doing, where you are going and who you are doing it with.  He wants to be a part of your life! He wants to be the priority in OUR life!

People of God–let us seek our God! Because He is greater and worthy to be praised.  There is so much that we need to surrender here and it can be done.  This December–let us devote ourselves even more so to our King! Exchange that online time –so that you can get inline to the very presence of God.

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
Colossians 4:2
