The Word Covers You

original rainJune finally arrives. Yay! Here in New York, summer is drawing near. Time for shorts and sandals. Well, I think that nature got mad at us for going to the basement and packing up all our sweaters. Nature said, “AHA! You thought I left huh?” So we get hit with another cold front. Now we are on the run for cover. I think about how we always have to be prepared and carry an umbrella. It should always be somewhere close by and easy to access. The umbrella is our covering. It is our shield and protection against this ever-changing weather. We also have to make sure we have extra sweaters on standby that can quickly cover us. How much more shall we make adequate protection for our souls? The Word of God reminds us to always be sober and watchful. Continue reading

Don’t Quit Now

imageStill pondering on the comment, “I don’t care if I lose four out of five fights, I just know the fire is going to come down!” Spoken by a professional fighter from Blackzilians UFC team.  There is so much more to continue from the first writing on, “Win Some and Lose Some.”

How do we speak as Christians during heavy trials? Or just during life itself? Do we speak faith? Do we continue with the same fervor and tenacity?  Hebrew 6:15 says, “so after he (Abraham) had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.”  You might think, “What promise?” The promise of blessing and abundant living. Let us think about this. To be honest waiting can be extremely difficult in the midst of a mess. Nobody likes to wait. It is uncomfortable, frustrating, painful at times, unsettling and even disturbing.  But we have to wait [to remain inactive or in a state of repose, as until something expected happens]. The problems is that as we wait, we try to do incorrect things in the interim to ease the feeling of being uncomfortable. To some that could be quite drastic and harmful to our lives. We must be careful.  It takes tremendous strength to wait.  But rest assured that as we wait we actually learn to do the correct things in life in order to obtain the best things that God has for us. Win Some and Lose Some

fist-fightI was watching the reality show “Blackzilians” during my gym run on the treadmill and found it quite intriguing. It caught my attention because one of the fighters said, “I don’t care if I lose 4 out of 5 fights, I just know that the fire is going to come.” They had to discuss the reality of loss.  He had a very positive perspective on fighting. It doesn’t always mean that you celebrate the victories, but that you also learn how to deal with the losses.  Don’t allow loss to make you quit and throw in the towel.  If passion is what drives you, not winning, then you should never quit because of a loss.

There was another guy scheduled to fight and he caught a seizure.  The whole team felt the impact of him being down. They had to find someone else in the team to step up and fight. As all the men stood, you see that there were so many.  I think what really brings success is having a team of good fighters put together.  Of all the men there, each will have a different gift, skill set, talent, speed, coordination, agility and strength. Does that mean that one is less than the other? What it means is that every person on that team has something unique about them in order to fight.  This makes each of them valuable in their own way.  For when one is not able to fight on that day, someone else can fight for them! Inspire Me

imageInspire: to fill with an animating, quickening, or exalting influence; to influence or impel; to communicate or suggest by a divine or supernatural influence; to give inspiration; inhale, breathe.

It is time to make a commitment to inspire yourself. Maybe that could certainly be through inspiring others but find a way to inspire yourself.  You deserve it. You need to be good to yourself. You need something in your life that is animating, quickening, that will exalt an influence over you and impel you to move forward everyday.
Here are some quick tips to practice. Continue reading
