It is just me and an ocean of possibilities. This came to mind as I looked upon a beautiful ocean that seemed endless. I spent another lovely morning at my favorite place in the whole wide world…the beach. I most enjoy these weekend visits to Long Island because I get to rest in such a serene and tranquil place for two straight days. I escape from the busy city, work, home, church, and everything else that keeps me tied up. It is my getaway from all. It is a time for me to recover from life itself.
Mike Shea wrote a phrase in a recovery journal: “When my faith is tested, can it be trusted?” It makes you ponder on the possibilities that are presented before us. In order to walk through those doors of opportunities we need FAITH for real. An unmovable faith, trust, confidence and stillness to wait for the right ones to walk through. Tonight I sat through a teaching given by my husband at our church and I got a little emotional at the words. I reflect upon my own personal story and think… Why does everything have to be so narrow?
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:13-14 NKJV
So narrow it is, and beyond our control. Perhaps this is just the place where many doors close so that we walk through the best one given by God. That way it won’t be so confusing. We often come to those spots in life and become so unsure of what to do… When it looks like many doors are closing and we are losing opportunity.
Surely we need faith.
We can come to that understanding that God is limitless. That there is nothing impossible for Him because His Word declares such in Matthew 19:46 and Luke 1:37. Yet when the problems start to arise we begin to lose sight of all that God purposed for us. We know His will for us demands for blessing, increase and favor. But what do we do when we experience the opposite? This is where we really need to put that faith to practice. When all of our faith will be tested.
“For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.” I Corinthians 16:9 NKJV
See there is a door that opens for us.
A door of blessing.
A door of increase.
A door of favor.
A door that contains our inheritace and promise!!! We just need to do what God tells us to do… Even if we have to wait on Him, despite the obstacles that WILL surely arise! For when the doors open that are going to be effective, just as the word declares, we are definitely going to have some heavy opposition. Why else would we have such a fight? This way our victory is going to be such a reason to celebrate.
I am sure the Israelites felt opposition before the parting of the red sea.
I am sure Abraham felt opposition when God asked him to sacrifice his only son that was supposed to be the heir!
I am sure Joseph felt opposition when he was thrown into a pit by his brothers!
I am sure the army with David felt opposition when they burned down their place of rest in Ziklag and carried off their women and children as hostage!
I am sure the three Hebrew men felt opposition when they were thrown into a fiery furnace that was turned up seven times stronger!
Lastly, I am sure Jesus Himself felt opposition when He was betrayed by one of His own disciples. I am sure He felt more opposition being scourged. And I am sure He felt the worst kind of opposition hanging on the cross.
Everyone encounters and feels the weight of opposition but it is knowing what you are promised that really takes you through. Our short term pain must be felt in order for us to receive our long term gain [Mike Shea]. We just need to use our faith. The possibilities are endless when we put our trust in God. We just need to walk through that one narrow door that will lead to all the rest!
Just trust God.
Use your faith.
Believe that promise is yours despite everything that is happening in the interim. Our focus should always be the promise and not the problem. Our focus should be the opportunity and not the opposition. Our focus should be our faith and not fear that tries to paralyze us. The promises of God are sure to happen –that is a guarantee. It just hurts when we also have the guarantee of opposition! The good news is… We will get through it and to it! That door may look narrow, feel narrow and sound narrow but it is the exact place to take you to the ocean of God’s possibilities! You will be blessed beyond what you could think of. For His ways are so much higher than ours [Isaiah 55:9].
He will do immeasurably, exceedingly and abundantly according to the power that works in us [Ephesians 3:20].
Just walk through those tight places, for it will bring you to the harvest of ABUNDANCE!
An ocean of possibilities is our promise!
