I used to think that recovery wasn’t possible. When I messed up or had been through the worst of the worst, I always thought that it was OVER for me. We call that “rock bottom.”
Problem is–I hit rock bottom A LOT and practically daily to the point that my rock bottom became my addiction. It was a habit. A bondage. A stronghold over me. A grip so tight that it was tormenting. I had no control over my situation, so I thought! But that was and is never the case with God! He wants you to hit rock bottom so that you can meet the Rock [Jesus] at that bottom!!! It’s never too late for you to bounce back.
When you encounter those rock bottom moments, God promises that He can fill you, renew you and change you forever so that you WIN! That you have power–YES! Power over your addiction! Power to overcome the problem! Power to progress! Now you just live by the process of renewal which is called the new life! Where all things become new.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,
he is a new creation;
old things have passed away;
behold, all things have become new
2 Corinthians 5:17
Recovery is possible and it is also a lifestyle. You cannot practice the process of recovery for only a temporary time. It is an everyday life now.
Recovery is not just about getting up from being broken but it is about getting up from being severely broken! {Paraphrased}
Psalm 44:19
There is hope! There is power over that addiction!
You CAN recover!
The problem is that people are not able to overcome their dependencies because they are hiding it or trying to do this on their own strength. When you have a problem you need help right? So you must come to the Helper [Holy Spirit] so that He can direct you in all things and lead you to godly people to also help with that process.
Most CHRISTIANS are struggling with an addiction of some sort!
They are struggling because they hide it too–just like anyone with an addiction. They are afraid to tell someone for fear of judgement. But if you want to get well then tell!!! Obviously not one that shows fruits of barbaric judgement but godly people to help support you. James 5:16 says, “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
Get therapy. Check into a rehabilitation program. Tell your pastors. Seek leaders that can help or a support group where you can receive encouragement throughout your recovery process.
Don’t avoid this — if you want to get well then you really must tell! And as technology is advancing, the techniques are also increasing to set the stage for sin. I am so sorry but I am not going to sugar coat the problems that are running rampant even throughout the church! Where men want to show you the size of their prize and women want to quickly display their apple bottom like the latest iPhone release!
Where are the morals here? Or the respect that we need as an individual. You have a problem! And when you have a problem, you need help. The bible says that in the last days that even the elect are going to be deceived. Yes the ELECT! The ones that are choice! The ones with strong callings! The ones in leadership roles. The enemy is moving fast to take down the best so he can be the best.
BUT WE WILL NOT LET THE ENEMY WIN!
Don’t worry if your situation or addiction looks like it is not capable of recovery. Don’t worry if you think that you feel too ashamed or that you are beyond repair, for it is at those precise times that God looks upon your situation and says PERFECT! This is EXACTLY why I sent my Son.
There is a way to recover. You just need to SUBMIT to the steps. You can’t be in the place of breakthrough only to return to that place of bondage. Remember –it is “All Things New!”
You know you have the problem. When you think those things can’t be seen, they really are obvious that there is something incorrect. Be aware of your rock bottom problem.
Many instances we return back to the place where the dependencies are. We return back to the lifestyle. Surrounded by drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography, tobacco or anything that had you captive. Do some deep cleaning. If you want the change to really take place, then you will have to change things!!!
No going BACK!
Delete phone numbers, messages, pictures, toss the alcohol, lose the drugs, movies, websites, yes QUIT the relationship and make it so that THEY CAN’T FIND YOU!!! If this is a new you then they should not be able to easily find you to bind you! You have to get rid of all the dependencies that were contributing to your destruction.
YOU ARE IN RECOVERY!
Don’t leave yourself vulnerable and susceptible to the enemy when you KNOW you have a weakness!
Remember, this is not an easy walk but it is a walk that you are more than able and capable of doing. God will renew you, restore you and rebuild you… you just need to want it and follow through so that God has something to work with. Let Him create that PURE heart. Let Him renew a STEADFAST spirit in you. He won’t cast you away and He won’t leave you to do this alone!
You can and WILL be restored! And you will be able to help all those that suffer with things that you were able to conquer through God. Make the change. Find a good rehabilitation center for your particular struggle. Your situation is never beyond repair or fixing. There is help available.
You can also start by checking into God’s rehabilitation center. The hotline number to begin is … 800-NO-GOING-BACK!
