One Morsel

imageI feel the need to NOT follow a trend. Like I have never been the person to do something just because everyone else is doing it. This is probably why I have never fit in with certain crowds. I was more of the odd ball in the batch. But I learned to find purpose by other means. It wasn’t the easiest road to travel upon, until I came to realize it was hard to fit in and easier just being me.

That is a freedom.

That is what we find in our relationship with the King.

And why would we trade that up for any other thing?

For one morsel of food…Esau gave up his birthright. We think that we don’t do this but sometimes our decisions speak otherwise. We trade off our calling, our purpose, our obedience, our faith or the like in a means of compromising with things taking the place of God.

Esau didn’t value his position. He SOLD it! And for what–a quick meal! What are you giving away your position for? Who are you giving it to?

Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. He said to Jacob, “Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!” (That is why he was also called Edom. Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright.”
“Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?” But Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.
Genesis 25:29-34

Some of us may be famished [extremely hungry] too! And the means of quenching our inner appetite is sought in so many other places that keep leaving us empty. We look to gratify our flesh in ways that displease God. Even with the simple things. That is why something so simple as food is referenced in the scripture. It can be so easy for us to become habitual and addictive.

So Esau gave up any right or privilege to which he was entitled to by birth! We give up our rights too. When we succumb to the enemy. When we succumb to an addictive and frivolous lifestyle. We start “living it up” without factoring in the costs!

Count the cost! Don’t be easily swayed!

Though people tried to bribe me, I have kept myself from the ways of the violent through what Your lips have commanded. My steps have held to Your paths; my feet have not stumbled.
Psalm 17:4-5

The word here declares that we have the ability to REFUSE anything that comes against us to hinder our walk! We have dominion over death and destruction.

Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God!
Psalm 119:115

Direct my footsteps according to your word;
let no sin rule over me.
Psalm 119:133

Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat of their delicacies.
Psalm 141:4

God is calling us to walk in the light! To make right decisions. To make sacrifices for our present and future. To choose the path of righteousness. To follow always after Him. We are not to conform to the world’s ways! If we are set apart–then that is APART! It is changed, transformed, renewed and DIFFERENT!

So this is the purpose. I have decided to stand out. I have decided to be different. I have decided to put God over everything. I have decided to feed my faith and starve my flesh!

Of course this isn’t easy! We want to eat and feed our bellies. But when you look at the end results–it is just so unhealthy and will not give us a lasting life. A proper diet is necessary in every area of our lives.

We can’t feed failure. We can’t feed cravings. We fix our eyes on our future. Our inheritance matters, not the meal. Our mandate matters, not the moment. Don’t trade it all way for a moment. Don’t give in to what the enemy wants of you. Surrender wholeheartedly to God and count the cost of that!

Social Media is a powerful tool, but that won’t feed you.

Friendship is a powerful resource, but that won’t feed you.

The workforce is a powerful place, but that won’t feed you.

All those things are TEMPORARY! What you need to feed is that which is eternal – your soul! Feed your future! Feed your faith! Keep yourself fueled and on fire for God always, because the enemy will be waiting for that moment that you latch onto him instead of clinging onto our KING!

There is nothing like being in the VERY presence of God and in obedience to His Word. Put God first. Put your purpose first. So that everything else will follow easily. Many people won’t understand, but it is up to you to walk in that assurance. Make every effort. Our complacency, inconsistency and negligent actions will eventually take its toll.

Esau didn’t walk in that assurance. His younger brother Jacob did. He counted the cost and it certainly was worth more than a morsel to him. What’s it worth to you?

This is more than a morsel… It is not for the latest trend. We become the trendsetters and the trailblazers when we don’t give up our rights!
