Today is My Friday

FridayI am so happy because today is my Friday! I just started a new compressed schedule for the summer that was offered here at work. This would mean that I complete my full hours of work in 4 days instead of 5, so that I can have every Friday off. I am not going to sugar coat how this first week has been because it really takes time to adjust myself to wake up earlier. Everyone that I shared this with, told me to go for it and said, “You are going to love having the extra day off”. The days are a bit longer but by the end of the week it will be worth having that extra day off. So today is my Friday and I am excited! I made it! One week through–here we go! Time to rejoice.

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For He commanded and they were created.
He also established them forever and ever;
He made a decree which shall not pass away.
Praise the Lord from the earth,
You great sea creatures and all the depths;
Fire and hail, snow and clouds;
Stormy wind, fulfilling His word;
Mountains and all hills; fruitful trees and all cedars;
Beasts and all cattle; creeping things and flying fowl;
Kings of the earth and all peoples;
Princes and all judges of the earth;
Both young men and maidens; old men and children.
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For His name alone is exalted;
His glory is above the earth and heaven.
And He has exalted the horn of His people,
The praise of all His saints –of the children of Israel,
A people near to Him. Praise the Lord!
~Psalm 148:5-14

It is funny how everyone celebrates this day throughout the week as the best day ever! We love when Friday arrives! For most of us that means we are off for the weekend. We get to make plans and go out since we have the time. But how can we make other days like Friday? So today is my Friday! I am off for the weekend.  I am happy. When Monday arrives, I feel the weight of the week already. I work full time hours, I am active in our church as a pastor and minister. I am involved in many activities. I am active at home as a wife and mom…cooking, cleaning and preparing things each day. I am active at the gym. I also make time for friendship and other activities that are fulfilling. Busy schedule right? Where does God fit in to all of this?

When you look at the scripture above you see how much we are to praise Him at all times. Everything praises God in some way or another. The people that are near to God will mostly give Him praise. I find myself near to God everyday. I make the time for Him daily. God is with me. He is in my thoughts. When I wake up in the morning I am already acknowledging Him. I don’t feel like I am ever alone. He is in the car with me on my way to work. He is with me now as I type up this blog. He is ever-present in my life as the scripture tells me. I draw near to Him and He draws near to me [James 4:8]. Everyday can be my Friday.

God has established us. He calls us kings and priests [Revelation 1:6]! We have authority over the earth. We can appreciate all that is in it and to enjoy what He has given to us every single day of our lives and not just on Fridays! We balance out our time. We balance our lives with God, family and friends. We balance at the work place environment and make our presence known. We balance when we fellowship and worship at church. We balance with our everyday activities and can appreciate that even through good times or rough times that God takes us through it all and we can stand victorious.

Today as many will throw back Thursday with photos and more over social media, let us appreciate that everyday is a new opportunity for us. It is a new opportunity for something really good to happen in our lives. It is an opportunity to build better memories. Just draw near to God. Find Him in all that you do. He is there. Trust that He has always had your best interest in His heart. He has the best plans stationed for you [Jeremiah 29:11]. Just take this day – call it your day to rejoice. Call it your day to praise the name of the Lord. Call it your Friday where you now have the free time to do something meaningful and important. Pick yourself up and make it happen. Put that smile on your face. For God has so many good things ready for you.

Today is My Friday! Make it yours too!
