Dive In December

imageI was sharing yesterday at our bible study the statistics of Christians time spent on reading the word, and so I will share that here. In today’s busy society, we spend more time on the social networks and other things rather than spending the time reading more of the Word of God. We quickly see the results of that.

People want inspiration from quoted images rather than looking to the Word of God–that’s truth. That’s everlasting. That has the depth that we need to impact lives, not a picture quote from Instagram. That won’t break the chains and the yokes of bondage the way that the Word of God will!

Let’s make a commitment this month! That we determine to DIVE IN DECEMBER by diving into the Word of the Living God! This Word of the Lord should be so near to us. Closer than anything else could ever be.

But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim…
Romans 10:8

I wrote on a blog back in June on how the Word covers us!

“The Word of God is our source of protection and keeping a constant connection with God through prayer is necessary for us to function effectively from day to day. Having a daily communion with God helps us to draw upon His presence and power. We must read the Word of God. That cannot be emphasized enough. We have to pick up the Word of God and use it. Bring it with you to work, have copies of it everywhere, plaster it on your walls, write it down, repeat it over and over until it becomes a part of you. Unfortunately, this is NOT a common practice in Christianity today. We are bogged down with work, home life, social media, activities and things that hinder us from seeking the nourishment that is necessary for our spiritual growth. None of these activities are bad but they can distract us from spending time daily. If the enemy is strategic in his planning, shouldn’t we be planning effectively?  We have to plan our days wisely. Redeeming the time. Connecting to our ultimate source of strength and protection. So this may mean disconnecting from some activities that completely drain us so that we have energy to spend the time building our spirits.”

I am not going to pretend as if I don’t need it even more because I still struggle too! Just as any person. We are flesh beings. I know how much as a woman, that I need the WORD of God MORE!

I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits,
and in His word I put my hope.
Psalm 130:5

DIVE IN! I remind myself and others… DIVE IN! Saturate yourself in the Word. Drown yourself in it. Be that sponge to absorb His every word. It is our guide. It is our strength. It is our hope. It is our life line. Everything is upheld by this word. It governs us, shapes us, keeps us and moves us. It carries us, corrects us and concerns us in everything that we do.

I know in the last month of the year, we are the busiest. But take the time to spend in the written word. Devote the hours during the week. Carry it with you. Start your day with it, remind yourself midday at lunch and end your day with it! You will see results. You will see the value. You will see how the word changes you.

The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.
They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.
By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 19:7-11

AMEN! How sweet that is!
This December–I will dive in.
